Many Mahalos to Arboretum Volunteers

To Volunteers of the Native Hawaiian Plant Society
Saturday, August 25th 2007
Mahalo nui from FOFA for a successful volunteer workday at the D.T. Fleming Arboretum. With determination, projects were completed.
175 tree labels were installed taking every minute of time up to the lunch bell; a rare treat: trails thick with Kukui leaves were raked and hauled to the “pit” in overflowing tarps; Ohe seed were collected completing the 7,000 seed goal to supply Ohe seedlings for the Poli Poli Reforestation Project; the Arboretum’s newly planted “Old Hawaii” section was beautifully weeded and de-rocked; native grass/weed patches were transformed into botanical presentations challenged by poky sticking grass seeds and the detailed weeding needed to eradicate Hono Hono.
Together the Native Plant Society and Friends of the Fleming Arboretum [FOFA] have contributed to Hawaii’s oldest and largest native arboretum, assisting in projects helping the progress of the D.T. Fleming Arboretum, projects helping to assure the Arboretum’s importance for Hawaii and future generations.
FOFA will be posting this great contribution in our website, along with photos, and noting this event in our upcoming newsletter.
With sincere appreciation,
Martha Vockrodt-Moran
FOFA President
