Jean Marilyn Claussen Trafton
(1924-2007)
My mother, Jean Marilyn Claussen Trafton, passed away on October 5, 2007 in Hillsborough, California, after a long illness. She was 83 years old.
Jean was a top-notch equestrienne. She ran for California Rodeo Queen, and was Miss Northern California. She rode horseback in the rodeos in New York's Madison Square Garden, and in Boston Garden, in 1941.
My mother met the man she was to marry, Harold Robert ("Bob") Trafton at Stanford University, where they both graduated. My father then joined the Navy, and went straight into Officers Candidate School at Notre Dame. My mother was graduated from Stanford with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation, she became a newspaper reporter.
My mother was brilliant, cultured, charming, gracious, and elegant. She loved her family, and she cared about her friends. She was active in the community, and was passionate about the arts.
My mother was preceded in death by her parents and her sister. As a wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be sorely missed.

John Kuamauna Rogoff

"One of the Most beautiful persons I've ever known- this was Kua as most people called him, His kind and gentle spirit touched all who knew him- aloha flowed from his being."
So much peace & joy stored up from years of walking or driving through the aina, Kahikinui, Ulupalakua, Polipoli, wherever, looking after the native la`au that he so loved. It was indeed a love affair, Kua and the native plants of Hawai`i whether he was collecting seed, planting or just checking different plants. Kua lived to malama aina. He walked in this Kuleana, passionate, purposeful, loving & understanding all things Hawaiian. Kua was initially introduced to hiking, plants, and Hawaiian culture by his mom Toby Rogoff who loved it all. He began taking long walks with her as a very young man through some of the most pristine places on Maui. Later learning and working along side Renee Silva, Mahealani Kaiaokamalie, Karl Martin and Art Mederios, he gleaned & developed deep relationships with these men.
In more recent years Kua also became a very excellent kalo farmer. His poi was so ono, he always had more customers than poi. His love and respect for all things Hawaiian was evident, especially Kahikinui. He was born in Kahikinui & raised in Kula, always preferring the peace of country life.
In 1999 Kua met Jill Paresa at Pu`uhonua o Iao where they worshipped together. It didn't take long before they were inseparable and on July 16, 2005 they were married in Ulupalakua. Such joy & love few have known! Kua will be missed by so many yet his legacy lives on in those he touched & inspired. His ashes were placed in the midst of Auahi where he helped restore the native forest. Our keiki will be able to walk through native forests because of his efforts. Mahalo nui loa ia oe, e Kua!

Kua is survived by his brothers Nick, Justin and Adam Rogoff; his wife Jill Paresa-Rogoff; Stepdaughter & son Ileili and Tetetia Tahauri; Aunt & Uncle Doug and Louli Mac Cluer; Cousins Stephanie and Andrew Miller, Scott Kenar; & Stepmother Jane Osborn.

Diane Helen Hopkins Clark
July 21, 1944-October 26, 2007
| Diane was preceded in death by her husband Mark Clark and sister Nancy Jane Cook Survivors include her mother Mrs. William (Kate) Hopkins her sisters Cathie Marie Hopkins, Martha Anne Barrett her nieces Jennifer Wamer, Cynthia Lusby, Sarah Stanford and Elizabeth Barrett as well as 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews.
Diane grew up in Toledo Ohio after which she moved to Beaver Washington to join her sister Cathie in the early 70s. There she met Mark Clark and they were married at Rialto Beach near Forks Washington. Diane and Mark had adventurous spirits. They moved to Haiku ,Hawaii in the 80's and stayed until Mark died unexpectedly in 1996. Diane moved back to the Beaver area and with help from close friends refurbished and remodeled her small home which she loved.
She was employed at West End Outreach Services where she worked at the "clubhouse" for the last 10 years. Those of us who knew Diane knew that she was a caring "Auntie" to the many children she knew including her own nieces and nephews. Diane was an amazing correspondent. She must have sent 200 birthday card every year and 50 gourmet Christmas packages.
Diane loved her Mother and Sisters and visited them often in Port Townsend. She loved gardening Diane had an eye for original and local art.
Diane will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

| October 5, 2007, Kaulunani Council members celebrated the life of Patrick Costales, the Oahu Department of Forestry and Wildlife Manager by planting a beautiful Mamane tree from Kulamanu Farm at the D.T. Fleming Arboretum.

In memory of Andrew Fleming of Thetis Island, Canada.
He loved many outdoor activities, including hiking, boating and biking.
He bicycled solo across Canada when he was 18.
He was very meticulous in everything he did
and was an exceptional problem solver.
He was self-taught in plant identification and used his knowledge to contribute to the wonderful garden his parents created.
