The Maui Association of Landscape Professionals Saturday, August 25 , 2007
Mahalo nui from FOFA for a successful volunteer workday at the D.T. Fleming Arboretum. With determination, projects were completed, rain or shine.
Tree stakes were installed helping to complete a grant for 175 upgraded tree labels with identification and additional new educational information; Mao Hau Hele seed were collected for the Puu Kali 500 acre enclosure above Makena; Hibiscus hualalaiensis were harvested for shipment to the Amy Greenwell Gardens on the Big Island, home of origin; Native plant/weed patches were transformed into botanical presentations; The Papala was pruned for grace, removing ripening sticky seed dangerous to little birds attracted to trapped bugs; 21 Podocarpus were pruned for health and branches piled for chipping.
Together MALP and Friends of the Fleming Arboretum [FOFA] have contributed to Hawaii’s oldest and largest native arboretum, assisting in projects helping the progress of the D.T. Fleming Arboretum, projects helping to assure the Arboretum’s importance for Hawaii and future generations.
FOFA will be posting MALP ’s contribution in our website, along with photos, and in our upcoming newsletter.
With sincere appreciation,
