AN
INVITATION TO MALAMA MAKENA ARTISTS
January 20, 2004
The D.T. Fleming Arboretum is
planted in the Pu`u Mahoe cinder cone within the ahupua`a of Honua`ula
at 2,600’ elevation. There are mountain views of green rolling
hills and ocean views of Maui’s southern coastline. Pu`u Mahoe
has a dynamic view of Laperouse Bay.
The Arboretum has 150 species of trees
native to the Honua`ula area, planted 50 years ago by the late D.
T. Fleming Artists are invited to paint on site
at Pu`u Mahoe joining Malama Makena effort for public awareness
and preservation of Honua`ula
. Any artists
interested need to call Martha Vockrodt-Moran at 572-1097 to coordinate.
Days and times will be coordinated according to requests.
The Arboretum is on private land within
a private ranch. Artists will meet at the Ulupalakua Ranch and caravan
up to Pu`u Mahoe. Friends of the Fleming Arboretum (FOFA)
has just created a website at www.flemingarboretum.org. Though our
website is still in the making, there are photos of the area available
for your viewing.
For the preservation of the entire ahupua`a
of Honua`ula. Malama Makena focuses on South Maui from Makena
to La Perouse while working for awareness and preservation of the
entire ahupua`a … Let's help share
the beauty of this prisitne area for its preservation.
Sincerely,
Martha Vockrodt-Moran, Phone: 572-1097
